About

Tatiana Giraud is a leading evolutionary biologist whose research bridges population genetics, genomics, and the ecology of host–pathogen interactions. Her work has fundamentally advanced our understanding of how fungi and other microbes evolve, speciate, and adapt to their hosts, with particular emphasis on plant pathogens and their coevolutionary dynamics. Giraud’s contributions include elucidating the genetic mechanisms of reproductive isolation in fungi, the role of hybridization in pathogen emergence, and the evolutionary consequences of mating systems. Her highly cited studies—such as those on the population genomics of the wheat pathogen *Zymoseptoria tritici* and the evolutionary genetics of anther-smut fungi—have shaped modern mycology and evolutionary biology.
