About
Dr. Suzanne Arnott is a pioneering colorectal surgeon whose research focuses on advancing minimally invasive surgical techniques for rectal cancer and diverticulitis. Her work centers on robotic transanal surgery, particularly for early-stage rectal neoplasia, where she has demonstrated that robotic platforms can safely extend the reach of transanal excision beyond the traditional 8 cm limit from the anal verge. In a 2018 case series of 10 patients, she showed that R0 resection of higher rectal cancers is achievable, challenging established surgical guidelines. Her 2019 study comparing two robotic platforms for transanal minimally invasive surgery in 21 patients (15 citations) further established the feasibility and outcomes of this approach. Dr. Arnott has also contributed to the safety of robotic colectomies for diverticulitis, showing in a 2022 study (9 citations) that robotic management is as safe as laparoscopic surgery in non-elective settings. Her work is reshaping the landscape of colorectal surgery, offering patients less invasive options with comparable oncologic outcomes.
