About
Dr. Steven Kaplan is a leading urologist renowned for his pioneering work in the surgical management of benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH) and prostate cancer. His research has fundamentally advanced the treatment of lower urinary tract symptoms (LUTS), particularly for patients with challenging, large-volume prostates. Dr. Kaplan is best known for his pivotal role in the development and long-term validation of Aquablation therapy. His landmark study, the WATER II trial, demonstrated the durable five-year safety and efficacy of this minimally invasive, water-jet ablation technique for prostates sized 80-150 mL, a population often excluded from other trials. This work, cited nearly 50 times, has established a new standard for treating complex BPH. Beyond BPH, Dr. Kaplan has contributed critical insights into the safety of robotic prostatectomy, using national databases to track iatrogenic complications and improve patient outcomes in prostate cancer surgery. With a career dedicated to rigorous clinical research, his contributions directly shape modern, less invasive urologic care, offering patients safer and more effective solutions.
