About

Shinichi Kinami is a leading figure in gastric cancer surgery, whose work has fundamentally shaped how surgeons approach early-stage disease. His primary research focuses on precision surgical techniques, lymph-node dissection, and the advancement of minimally invasive and robotic procedures for upper gastrointestinal cancers. Kinami’s most influential contribution is his landmark 2019 study on precision surgical approaches with lymph-node dissection in early gastric cancer, which has garnered 51 citations. This work established that while lymph-node metastasis is the gravest prognostic factor, occurring in about 10% of cases, two-thirds of patients can be accurately diagnosed as node-negative preoperatively, enabling less invasive tumor resection via endoscopy. He has also been a pioneer in local gastric resection methods, exploring laparoscopic and endoscopic techniques to preserve stomach function and prevent postoperative symptoms.
