About
Dr. Seiichiro Kanaya is a pioneering robotic surgeon whose work has fundamentally shaped minimally invasive approaches to gastrointestinal cancers. His primary research areas include robotic gastrectomy, esophagectomy, and colorectal surgery, with a special focus on advanced lymphadenectomy techniques. Dr. Kanaya’s landmark contributions include developing the first integrated robotic procedure for suprapancreatic D2 nodal dissection in gastric cancer (181 citations) and a novel robot-assisted thoracoscopic lymphadenectomy along the left recurrent laryngeal nerve for esophageal cancer (161 citations), dramatically reducing nerve palsy risks. He performed Japan’s first reported robotic colorectal cancer surgery in 2009, and his multicenter studies have validated the safety and learning curves for robotic gastrectomy.
