Dr. S. Chalikonda is a pioneering hepatopancreatobiliary surgeon whose work has helped define the modern era of minimally-invasive pancreatic surgery. His research focuses on the technical feasibility, safety, and oncologic outcomes of robotic-assisted pancreaticoduodenectomy—one of the most complex abdominal operations. In his landmark 2012 study, "Laparoscopic robotic-assisted pancreaticoduodenectomy: a case-matched comparison with open resection," Dr. Chalikonda demonstrated that the robotic approach could achieve comparable outcomes to open surgery, with reduced blood loss and shorter hospital stays.
