About
Roxana Mehran is a world-renowned interventional cardiologist and clinical researcher whose work has fundamentally reshaped patient care in cardiovascular medicine. Her primary research areas include acute coronary syndromes, antithrombotic therapy, and the critical intersection of gender equity and occupational health in cardiology. Dr. Mehran is best known for developing the Mehran contrast-induced nephropathy risk score, a globally adopted tool that helps clinicians predict and prevent kidney injury after angiographic procedures. She has also been a leading voice in exposing the occupational hazards of the catheterization laboratory, authoring the landmark SCAI multi-society position statement on protecting healthcare workers from radiation and orthopedic injury. Her pioneering Gender-CATH study brought unprecedented attention to the challenges faced by women interventional cardiologists in Italy and worldwide. With over 1,000 peer-reviewed publications and more than 100,000 citations, Dr. Mehran’s impact is immense.
