About
Dr. Roberta Pisano is a pioneering robotic surgeon whose work has reshaped minimally invasive approaches across multiple surgical specialties. Her research focuses on the application of robotic technology in complex gastrointestinal, colorectal, and urologic procedures, with a particular emphasis on improving patient outcomes and expanding the boundaries of what is possible without open surgery. Dr. Pisano’s most impactful contribution is her prospective evaluation of robotic giant hiatal hernia repair, demonstrating that robotic assistance can overcome the technical challenges of conventional laparoscopy, leading to enhanced recovery and reduced complications—a study that has garnered 28 citations. She has also advanced colorectal surgery through her work on hybrid laparoscopic-robotic total proctocolectomy and robot-assisted intersphincteric resection for low rectal cancer, showing that these techniques can achieve excellent oncologic and functional results. Notably, her early experience with the Da Vinci Xi® platform for rectal cancer surgery has helped establish best practices for this emerging technology. Beyond gastrointestinal surgery, Dr. Pisano has explored robotic partial nephrectomy without vascular clamping, achieving high success rates with minimal blood loss. With a growing body of work that bridges innovation and clinical application, Dr. Pisano continues to be a leading voice in the safe, effective adoption of robotic surgery.
