About
Dr. Pankaj Wadhwa is a pioneering urologic surgeon whose work has fundamentally advanced the field of robotic reconstructive surgery. His primary research focus lies in developing and refining minimally invasive robotic techniques for complex urological conditions, particularly vesicovaginal fistulas (VVF). His landmark 2008 study on robotic reconstruction for recurrent supratrigonal VVFs, cited over 100 times, established a novel, minimally invasive alternative to traditional open surgery, demonstrating superior outcomes for this challenging patient population. Dr. Wadhwa was also among the first to report a case series of robotic radical cystoprostatectomy with urinary diversion using the da Vinci S system, and he pioneered pure robotic extended pyelolithotomy as a cosmetic replica of open surgery for large renal stones. More recently, his research has expanded into the futuristic applications of transition metal dichalcogenides for cancer therapy, showcasing his versatility. With a career spanning from pioneering robotic techniques to exploring nanomedicine, Dr. Wadhwa’s contributions have significantly shaped modern urologic practice and inspired a generation of surgeons to embrace innovation.
