About
Dr. Nasr El‐Tabey is a pioneering urologic surgeon whose work has fundamentally shaped the field of robotic pelvic surgery. His primary research focuses on advancing minimally invasive techniques for bladder and prostate cancer, with a particular emphasis on preserving patient quality of life through nerve-sparing procedures. His landmark 2003 paper, "Nerve‐sparing robot‐assisted radical cystoprostatectomy and urinary diversion," with over 616 citations, established the foundational technique for performing this complex surgery robotically while protecting the neurovascular bundles essential for erectile function. This work demonstrated that robotic assistance could enhance the precision of laparoscopic radical cystectomy. Dr. El‐Tabey further advanced functional outcomes in prostate cancer surgery through his 2006 study on preserving the puboprostatic collar and performing puboperineoplasty, which showed significant promise for accelerating urinary continence recovery after robotic prostatectomy.
