About

Dr. Luigi Pedone Anchora is a leading gynecologic oncologist whose research is reshaping the surgical management of cervical and endometrial cancers. His work centers on two critical frontiers: optimizing surgical approaches for early-stage cervical cancer and pioneering the adoption of next-generation robotic platforms. Dr. Anchora’s landmark 2018 study comparing surgical approaches for Stage IB1 cervical cancer (85 citations) and his case-matched analysis of robotic versus laparoscopic radical hysterectomy (73 citations) have provided essential evidence on oncologic outcomes and recurrence patterns. He has also addressed high-risk populations, demonstrating the safety of robotic hysterectomy in severely obese endometrial cancer patients (37 citations). A true innovator, Dr. Anchora is at the forefront of surgical technology, leading the first European experience with the Hugo™ RAS robotic system for gynecologic surgery (2024) and piloting its use for total hysterectomy. His ongoing ENGOT-cx23/MITO/LASH trial (2025) is a pivotal investigation into minimally invasive simple hysterectomy for low-risk cervical cancer. With over 240 total citations, Dr. Anchora’s work directly informs clinical guidelines and expands access to safer, less invasive surgical care.
