About

Lilian Kow is a pioneering bariatric surgeon whose work is redefining quality standards in metabolic and bariatric surgery. Her research focuses on two transformative frontiers: robotic surgery and artificial intelligence. In her landmark 2023 study, "Global benchmarks in primary robotic bariatric surgery," Kow established the first-ever "best possible" outcomes for robotic Roux-en-Y gastric bypass and sleeve gastrectomy, directly challenging the superiority of traditional laparoscopic approaches. This highly cited work (27 citations) provides crucial benchmarks for surgical quality and patient safety worldwide. More recently, Kow led an international expert consensus on AI in metabolic and bariatric surgery (2025), exploring how machine learning and deep learning can revolutionize preoperative planning, intraoperative decision-making, and postoperative care. With 14 citations already, this forward-looking paper positions Kow at the intersection of surgery and cutting-edge technology. Her contributions are shaping the future of bariatric care, offering surgeons and researchers a data-driven roadmap for safer, more effective, and technologically advanced treatments.
