About
L.C. Tack is a forensic and molecular biology researcher whose work has made meaningful strides in automating and optimizing laboratory workflows for DNA analysis. Best known for contributions to forensic DNA processing, Tack's most influential research focuses on the automated purification of forensic DNA from FTA card punches, paired with STR-based PCR analysis using the Identifiler system — a methodology that directly addresses the mounting pressure forensic laboratories face in processing increasingly diverse and voluminous sample types, from crime scene evidence to convicted offender databases. This work, published in both 2005 and 2007 and accumulating nearly 40 citations combined, has provided practical, scalable solutions for high-throughput forensic casework. Earlier in their career, Tack also contributed to the field of genomics through research on automated high-throughput probe production for DNA microarray analysis, published in 2003. This work tackled the laborious challenge of preparing the hundreds or thousands of cDNA probes required for gene expression profiling, helping to streamline a then-emerging but critical research tool. Across these contributions, Tack demonstrates a consistent focus on bringing automation and efficiency to complex, high-stakes molecular biology applications.
