Jung Kyong Shin is a pioneering colorectal surgeon whose research focuses on advancing minimally invasive surgical techniques for rectal and colon cancer, particularly through the adoption and refinement of single-port robotic (SPR) platforms. Her major contributions center on systematically defining the learning curves for SPR-assisted rectal cancer surgery and colectomy, demonstrating that these novel procedures are both safe and feasible even during the initial adoption phase. In a landmark comparative study, she showed that SPR right hemicolectomy yields postoperative short-term outcomes comparable to single-port laparoscopic surgery, validating the robotic approach.
