Dr. Juichi Ito is a pioneering head and neck surgeon whose work has fundamentally reshaped the surgical management of laryngo-pharyngeal and oropharyngeal cancers. His primary research focuses on advancing minimally invasive surgical techniques, particularly transoral robotic surgery (TORS) and transoral surgery, to improve patient outcomes while reducing morbidity. Dr. Ito’s most influential contribution is his landmark 2015 paper on transoral surgery for laryngo-pharyngeal cancer, which has garnered over 106 citations and is widely recognized for catalyzing a paradigm shift in the field. This work demonstrated that less invasive approaches could achieve oncologic efficacy comparable to traditional open surgery, transforming standard treatment protocols.
