John Vilk is a pioneering researcher at the intersection of social robotics, human-computer interaction, and computational humor. His most influential work centers on designing autonomous social agents capable of natural, playful engagement with humans. Vilk’s landmark paper, “Comedians in Cafes Getting Data” (2020, 40 citations), established the foundational framework for integrating stand-up comedy into robotic behavior, arguing that as in-home social agents take on more intimate roles, the ability to tell and adapt jokes will become critical for user engagement.
