About
Jianxin Qiu is a leading figure in the advancement of minimally invasive head and neck surgery, with a primary focus on developing scarless and tissue-sparing approaches for thyroid and parotid gland diseases. His major contributions lie in pioneering and systematically evaluating transoral endoscopic techniques, most notably the transoral vestibule approach for thyroidectomy, which eliminates visible neck scars while maintaining surgical safety and efficacy. His highly cited 2018 systematic review on this approach (55 citations) has become a foundational reference for surgeons adopting this technique worldwide. Qiu has also made significant strides in parotid surgery, as demonstrated by his 2021 meta-analysis comparing endoscopic and robotic parotidectomy to conventional methods. This work systematically quantified the benefits of these novel approaches, including improved cosmetic outcomes and reduced complications, thereby helping to establish a new standard of care for benign parotid tumors. Through these evidence-based contributions, Qiu has not only advanced surgical innovation but also provided the rigorous clinical data necessary to validate these techniques, shaping modern practice in head and neck endocrine surgery.
