Inne H.M. Borel Rinkes is a pioneering Dutch surgeon-scientist whose career has been defined by advancing minimally invasive and robotic surgical techniques across a range of complex oncological procedures. Working primarily in gastrointestinal and hepatopancreaticobiliary surgery, Borel Rinkes has been instrumental in establishing robot-assisted minimally invasive esophagectomy (RAMIE) as a credible alternative to open transthoracic surgery for esophageal cancer — a landmark randomized trial on this topic has accumulated over 640 citations and significantly influenced international surgical practice.
