About
Hong Shen is a leading figure in analytical chemistry, whose work has fundamentally advanced the field of trace metal determination. Her research centers on the development of highly sensitive and selective methodologies for environmental and biological analysis, with a particular focus on flow injection techniques and atomic spectrometry. Shen’s major contribution lies in pioneering on-line sorbent preconcentration systems, dramatically improving the detection limits for heavy metals. Her seminal 2000 paper on copper determination, which has garnered over 100 citations, revolutionized the field by demonstrating that 1,10-phenanthroline is a superior, more stable, and selective complexing agent than traditional reagents like DDTC and APDC for on-line preconcentration on RP-C18 material.
