About

Heng-Fu Lin is a surgeon and researcher whose work spans the frontiers of thoracic surgery and innovative medical device technology. His key research areas include the management of life-threatening tracheobronchial injuries and the development of novel methods for intraabdominal pressure (IAP) monitoring. Dr. Lin made a landmark contribution to thoracic surgery by performing the first reported case of a robotic-assisted bronchial reconstruction for a traumatic left main bronchial rupture. This pioneering work, published in 2017, demonstrated that even in delayed presentations of this rare and critical condition, a minimally invasive robotic approach can achieve a successful outcome, offering a new paradigm for surgical management. In the realm of critical care, Dr. Lin is advancing patient safety through a 2025 human pilot trial investigating the feasibility and accuracy of a continuous IAP monitoring system using an ingestible capsular device. This work addresses the urgent need for early detection of intraabdominal hypertension and abdominal compartment syndrome. With his publications garnering attention in the surgical community, Dr. Lin is recognized as a forward-thinking clinician translating complex surgical challenges into tangible, life-saving innovations.
