H. McIlvaine Parsons was a pioneering researcher at the intersection of human factors engineering and robotics, a field he helped define during its formative years in the early 1980s. At a time when industrial robotics was rapidly emerging as a transformative technology, Parsons recognized that the human element in automated systems demanded rigorous scientific attention. His landmark work, "Robotics and Human Factors: Current Status and Future Prospects" (1982), which garnered 40 citations, argued persuasively that human factors scientists needed to claim their place in shaping how robots were designed, deployed, and integrated into workplaces.
