About
Giulia Sedda is a leading thoracic surgeon whose research is reshaping the surgical management of non-small-cell lung cancer (NSCLC), with a particular focus on robotic-assisted thoracic surgery (RATS). Her work has been instrumental in demonstrating the safety, efficacy, and long-term benefits of robotic lobectomy, especially for high-risk populations. In a landmark 2019 study, she reported a survival rate of 93.3% at 32 months for early-stage lung cancer patients undergoing robotic lobectomy, and her subsequent research showed that obese patients experienced significantly fewer complications and shorter hospital stays with the robotic approach compared to traditional surgery. Sedda’s 2022 matched analysis, comparing RATS, video-assisted thoracic surgery (VATS), and open thoracotomy, provided compelling evidence that robotic surgery offers superior long-term outcomes for stage I NSCLC.
