Filip Casselman is a pioneering cardiothoracic surgeon whose work has fundamentally reshaped minimally invasive and robotic cardiac surgery. His research centers on hybrid revascularization, robotic-enhanced coronary artery bypass grafting (RE-MIDCAB), and advanced atrioventricular valve repair. Casselman’s landmark 2005 paper on hybrid revascularization (57 citations) established a paradigm for combining robotic LIMA-to-LAD grafting with percutaneous coronary intervention, offering a less traumatic alternative to sternotomy. He further advanced the field with his 2004 study on multivessel sutureless off-pump bypass using magnetic connectors (21 citations), a novel approach to distal anastomosis.
