About
Fabio Landoni is a leading figure in gynaecologic oncology whose work has fundamentally shaped international standards for endometrial cancer care. He is best known for co-authoring the ESMO Clinical Practice Guidelines for the diagnosis, treatment, and follow-up of endometrial cancer, with his 2013 and 2011 editions accumulating over 1,180 combined citations—a testament to their global influence on clinical practice. Beyond guideline development, Landoni has been a pioneer in advancing minimally invasive surgery for gynaecologic malignancies. His seminal case-control study on the robotic approach for cervical cancer (129 citations) demonstrated its safety and efficacy compared to traditional laparotomy, while his subsequent work at a referral cancer center confirmed comparable oncologic outcomes for robotic radical hysterectomy. He further expanded the frontier of robotic surgery by establishing the feasibility of robotic-assisted transperitoneal aortic lymphadenectomy for comprehensive staging. Through these contributions, Landoni has not only improved surgical precision and recovery for patients but also provided the evidence base that has helped transition the field toward less invasive, yet equally effective, treatment paradigms.
