Elizabeth A. Lyons is a leading forensic geneticist whose work has fundamentally advanced the use of complete mitochondrial genome (mtGenome) sequencing for human identification. Her research centers on developing high-quality population reference databases and robust sequencing methodologies essential for forensic casework. Lyons’s most impactful contribution is her landmark 2014 study, which generated and characterized 588 forensic-quality mtGenome haplotypes representing three major U.S. populations.
