About
Edgaras Smolskas is a surgical innovator whose research has firmly established him as a pioneering figure in robotic colorectal surgery, with a particular focus on the Senhance® robotic platform. His work spans a range of complex colorectal procedures, including right colectomy, sigmoid resection, abdominoperineal resection, and total mesorectal excision, demonstrating both technical breadth and clinical ambition. Smolskas has been instrumental in documenting and disseminating early real-world experience with the Senhance® system, a robotic platform that has attracted growing interest as an alternative to more established surgical robots. His 2022 single-center study, the most cited of his publications with 27 citations, provides valuable clinical evidence supporting the safety and feasibility of robotic colorectal procedures using this technology. Complementing this, a series of influential video vignettes published in 2019 — collectively accumulating over 60 citations — have offered surgical communities practical, visual guidance on advanced techniques such as robotic-assisted transanal total mesorectal excision. Through this body of work, Smolskas has made a meaningful contribution to the global adoption of minimally invasive robotic surgery in colorectal oncology.
