Dong Jin Kim is a leading figure in robotic and oncologic surgery, with a career defined by pioneering work in minimally invasive techniques and large-scale epidemiological research. His key contributions span two distinct but impactful domains: robot-assisted cardiac surgery and the surgical management of gastric cancer. In a landmark 2015 study, Kim documented the initial experiences of his team using the da Vinci Surgical System, reporting on 50 consecutive patients who underwent robot-assisted cardiac surgery.
