About
Diego Moreira Capibaribe is a pioneering urologic surgeon whose work centers on advanced robotic techniques for complex post-prostatectomy complications. His primary research focuses on the minimally invasive management of vesicourethral anastomotic stenosis (VUAS) and residual prostate tissue following radical prostatectomy—a challenging clinical problem with limited published guidance. Capibaribe’s major contribution is the development and detailed demonstration of a total transabdominal robotic approach for recalcitrant VUAS, offering a novel solution for patients with extensive strictures where traditional treatments fail. His landmark 2023 paper, which has already garnered 6 citations in a short time, provides the first comprehensive video-based description of this technique, including robotic resection of remaining prostate and end-to-end anastomosis. This work fills a critical void in the literature, as very few studies or visual resources exist for this procedure. By standardizing and sharing this complex robotic approach, Capibaribe is helping to expand surgical options and improve outcomes for patients suffering from this debilitating post-prostatectomy complication, establishing himself as an emerging authority in reconstructive urologic robotics.
