Daniel M. Blumberger is a leading figure in biological psychiatry and interventional brain stimulation, with a primary focus on the treatment of major depressive disorder. His research has been instrumental in establishing the clinical efficacy of repetitive transcranial magnetic stimulation (rTMS), particularly for treatment-resistant depression. A major contribution includes the development and validation of accelerated TMS protocols, such as intermittent theta burst stimulation (iTBS), which significantly reduces treatment time from over 30 minutes to just three minutes while maintaining equivalent antidepressant efficacy.
