About
Bibi Huskens is a pioneering researcher at the intersection of developmental robotics and autism intervention, whose work has fundamentally reshaped how technology supports social skill development in children with Autism Spectrum Disorders (ASD). Her research focuses on robot-mediated interventions, Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA), and peer-mediated therapies, with a particular emphasis on leveraging humanoid robots to foster communication and collaborative play. In her landmark 2013 study (140 citations), she demonstrated that robot-led ABA interventions were as effective as human trainers in promoting self-initiated questioning in school-aged children with ASD—a breakthrough that opened new avenues for scalable, engaging therapy.
