About

Barbara Geppert is a Swedish gynecologic oncologist whose research has fundamentally reshaped the surgical staging of endometrial and cervical cancer. Working primarily at academic centers in Sweden, she has dedicated her career to refining and validating sentinel lymph node (SLN) techniques as a safer, more precise alternative to conventional lymphadenectomy in gynecologic malignancies. Her landmark SHREC trial (2019, 237 citations) prospectively demonstrated the diagnostic accuracy of pelvic SLN algorithms in high-risk endometrial cancer, representing what she and colleagues described as a paradigm shift in surgical staging. Complementing this work, her 2017 studies — on feasibility, safety, and lymphatic complications (168 citations) and a reproducible anatomical SLN algorithm (69 citations) — established the methodological foundation now widely adopted in clinical practice.
