About
Antonella Fuccio is a leading geneticist whose work has profoundly shaped the understanding and clinical management of cystic fibrosis (CF) in Southern Italy. Her research focuses on the molecular epidemiology of CF, specifically the identification and characterization of rare, population-specific mutations that are often missed by standard screening panels. In her landmark 1999 study, which has garnered 49 citations, Fuccio demonstrated that the eight most common CF mutations account for only 78% of alleles in Southern Italy.
