Anton Oertl is a pioneering urologic surgeon whose work has fundamentally advanced the field of robotic-assisted pelvic surgery. His primary research focuses on the development and refinement of minimally invasive techniques for complex oncologic procedures, particularly radical cystectomy and urinary diversion. Oertl’s landmark 2003 paper, "Robotic-Assisted Laparoscopic Radical Cystectomy and Intra-Abdominal Formation of an Orthotopic Ileal Neobladder," with over 230 citations, is a seminal contribution that demonstrated the technical feasibility and oncologic safety of performing the entire bladder removal and neobladder reconstruction entirely intracorporeally using the da Vinci system.
