About
Ana Monteagudo is a leading figure in obstetric and gynecologic ultrasound, with a particular focus on the diagnosis and management of complex early pregnancy complications. Her major contributions center on developing minimally invasive techniques to prevent and control life-threatening hemorrhage in patients with Cesarean scar pregnancies (CSP) and cervical pregnancies (CxP). In her highly cited 2014 study (62 citations), Monteagudo demonstrated the efficacy of using a Foley balloon catheter as a prophylactic or adjuvant therapy to manage bleeding during treatment for these challenging conditions. This work has provided clinicians with a practical, low-cost tool to improve patient safety and reduce the need for more radical surgical interventions. Beyond this landmark paper, her research has advanced the understanding of placental abnormalities and first-trimester imaging. With a career dedicated to refining high-risk pregnancy management, Monteagudo’s work has directly influenced clinical protocols, helping to preserve fertility and save lives in cases once considered extremely high-risk.
