摘要

The problem of designing robots that imitate human senses and behavior is discussed. Researchers are following a number of paths. Sensors are being tested that can give robots vision and a sense of touch, and attempts are being made to place robots in situations in which other kinds of sensors or strain gauges can be used. IBM's 7665 Manufacturing System is described as well as IMP (Intelligent Mobile Platform) developed at the Carnegie-Mellon University. Other current research in robot development is reviewed. A robot with advanced vision system has been developed at the General Electric Research and Development Center in New York. The technique which uses a lidar, a light-emitting version of radar, is the key element in GE's new Weld Vision System. Research at Western University to meet the need for tactile-sensing in robots is described. The Charles Stark Draper Laboratory's work in the same field is also described.
