摘要

RESULTS:. METHODS: 75 consecutive patients were treated. Twenty-two patients (29%) had their antegrade ureteroscopic stone extraction during an emergency admission. Only three patients had had any previous treatment for their stone, two with ESWL. All stones were symptomatic, 85% presenting with colic as the primary symptom. 29% presented with pyrexia and 28% had a nephrostomy inserted during an emergency admission. Altogether 102 stones were treated, of which 75 were located in the ureter: 85% were upper ureteric and 15% mid ureteric. The mean ureteric stone size was 9.1 mm (range 3-25). Results: Immediate stone clearance for all ureteric stones was achieved in 91% (68/75). At six weeks, the overall success rate (defined as complete absence of any fragments) was 96%. Twelve JJ stents were inserted in this series, most towards the beginning of this series. No major complications occurred. One patient had a delayed trial without catheter because of prolonged haematuria. One patient was noted to have a small ureteric perforation that was stented (with no subsequent problems and a normal IVU). There were no chest complications, no post-operative blood transfusions and of the 6 people that developed pyrexia postoperatively, all settled with antibiotic therapy.
