摘要

Major shifts in employment patterns during the next 20 years will occur as robots and computers eliminate labor-intensive jobs in a process dating back to the start of the industrial revolution. New fields will expand job opportunities for technicians in robotics, lasers, energy, waste, computer programming, genetic engineering, and paramedics. The changes will reduce the political power of labor unions and create hardships for those unable or unwilling to accept technology. A new approach to joblessness will require cooperative planning among government, industry, and educational institutions. Solar technology will flourish in the Sun Belt and create new jobs if potential workers prepare themselves with the proper training. (DCK)
