Reliable data communication is essential for the increasingly intelligent, automated, and pervasive digital world. Mobile networks are the data highways required to connect everyone and everything in a fully interconnected, smart digital society, including people with cars, sensors, data, cloud resources, and even robotic agents. Although currently being installed, fifth-generation (5G) wireless networks offer considerable improvements over LTE, and they may only partially satisfy the connectivity needs of the coming digital society. Therefore, new technologies that will advance wireless networks to the sixth generation (6G), which we consider enablers for a number of potential 6G use cases, are necessary. This chapter provides a comprehensive, system-level view of 6G situations and requirements. This chapter delves into the exciting realm of 6G technology and its potential applications and use cases. 6G, or the sixth generation of wireless communication technology, is expected to bring about revolutionary developments that will influence many facets of life. This chapter examines the many implications of 6G and how they affect many industries, from ultra-fast networking to holographic communication and sophisticated transportation systems. It also looks at the possible advantages in public safety, sustainability, healthcare, and the Internet of Things (IoT). Readers will thoroughly grasp the enormous potential of 6G and its social ramifications by the end of this chapter.
