摘要
Western industrialized societies are rapidly evolving into collections of "knowledge workers," in which an increasing number of professions require the assimilation, evaluation, and production of information by skilled specialists. A corresponding new generation of intelligent computers will evolve to support these specialists by providing knowledge and solutions rather than raw data. Systems based on artificial intelligence are emerging to provide humans with expert advice, access to complex data bases and programs, instruction, and intelligent robots. Progress in these areas will depend on an understanding of human behavior and cognitive skills. This paper examines opportunities for the methods and results of cognitive psychology to contribute to and benefit from the development of intelligent computer systems.
